A Sweet Time!
The Museum of Ice Cream is a quick, sweet excursion suitable for the whole family. The cotton-candy pink exterior of the museum sets the stage perfectly for the whimsical exhibits inside. The museum has around 9-10 rooms, spotlighting specifics sweets, where an usher of sorts gives out treats (mochi, chocolate, pink flapjack ice cream sandwiches) and little informative tidbits on them.
The first main room was dedicated to ice cream as a whole. Given individual servings of delicious ice cream, we admired the Museum’s Walk of Fame, which was made up of ice cream puns! I thoroughly enjoyed the creativity of “stars” like “Snookie Dough,” “Jimmies Fallon,” and “Dwayne ‘The Rocky Road’ Johnson.”
Another of my favorite rooms was the Banana Split room. With various yellow and pink bananas hanging from the ceiling, scratch-and-sniff walls (you read that right) and two swings, it was a great spot for photos!
Some of the other featured rooms/treats include cookie dough, popsicles, and gummi bears. But, of course, everyone knows the highlight is the sprinkle pool! Filled with millions of (plastic – don’t eat them!) sprinkles, the pool was big enough to hold four to six people at a time and offered photo ops with pool floats, a diving board, and beach balls. The sensation of your feet sinking into a pit of sprinkles filled everyone with glee. No one wanted to get out when their five minutes were up – including the adults.
At the end of your tour, you can get keepsakes at the gift shop, play ping pong while enjoying your flapjack ice cream sandwich, or go out front and play large Jenga, bean bag toss or ice cream connect four. Unfortunately, it was quite hot the day I went, so we weren’t too keen on spending time outside.
In addition to the tasty treats we got, the Museum of Ice Cream offers a fun trip to celebrate ice cream (and its toppings) and inspires a sense of play and fun among the visitors.
